The Ambiguities

Leo Hwang-Carlos, Bass

Leo Hwang-Carlos plays a 1939 Kay double bass, 1980's Fender Custom Shop Kubicki, and a 1990's Fender JP-90 through a Mesa Boogie Bass 400 or 400+ and Mesa Boogie Diesel 4x10, one or two Aguilar GS112s, a BagEnd 2x10, a Roland DB-500 and a Gallien-Krueger MB150E. With the upright he uses a Fishman Pro-EQ Platinum.

He brings an eclectic, and dare we say ambiguous melange of influences, from Bootsy Collins, James Jamerson, and Ray Brown, to Edgar Meyers, Me'shell Ndegecello, and Brian Ritchie.

Over the years Leo has worked as a reporter for the Town Crier, stock boy at Building 19.75, gas station attendant, golf shop clerk and weed whacker, gym teacher to grade school kids, college cafeteria server/cleaner, luthier, head resident in a women's college, staff in an intramurals office (handed out basketballs), pr writer for a fine arts center, English teacher to kids from the Bronx, students from U.Mass, Westfield State, and Greenfield Community College, and currently Leo is the associate dean of humanities at Greenfield Community College.
